Climb Illiniza NorteGuided expedition · Ecuador

Climb Illiniza Norte, a 5,126 m rock summit that is one of Ecuador's best acclimatisation peaks. This guided Illiniza Norte climb by PEAKS is a non-glacier scramble on rock and scree, perfect for building altitude before Cotopaxi or Chimborazo.

From the trailhead at La Virgen we trek to the Nuevos Horizontes refuge (4,700 m), then scramble the north ridge on summit day. A helmet is required for loose rock, and certified national mountain guides coach movement and route-finding throughout.

Illiniza Norte pairs naturally with its glaciated twin, Illiniza Sur, and is a key stop in a structured acclimatisation program along the Avenue of the Volcanoes. It rewards fit hikers with no prior technical experience.
